-Production episode (MORINORI)
I met an irreplaceable teacher several years ago when I encountered Heikyoku, a narrative of the Tale of the Heike, narrated and accompanied by biwa (Japanese lute). When I thought about my future, combined with the various environmental changes caused by the new coronavirus, I decided to continue learning heikyoku for the rest of my life. I can’t even speak properly now, and I’m still trying to follow the music and my teacher’s sounds.
The design I am working on in MORI is the actual heikyoku I am studying. Heikyoku is made up of various combinations of verses, and when you say it out loud, a different kind of impression spreads through your body than when you read it in a story. For MORI, I have selected the most impressive parts of the Heikyoku and transcribed them into the design.
I decided that the first design for MORI would be for Chudo-sama. I usually eat very little and get sick when I am occupied with production, but when I sing Tadanorimiyakoochi, I get hungry. I thought something was wrong with my body, so I went to the hospital for a checkup and found absolutely nothing wrong.
The moment I heard the results from my doctor, I remember that MORINORI stuck out his tongue and said, “Eat more, MORINORI. I remember I thought he laughed at me. A gentle delusion. It shouldn’t have come out with such cuteness, but something was extreme and I cried a lot. In times of difficulty and pain, I had Heikyoku. It was this song that got the brush strokes going more quickly than any other song I had studied.
